We run a Novice Development Programme throughout June and July, between the times of 6pm-8pm on a Tuesday evening.
You will be rowing with people of a similar ability, with a couple of experienced rowers in the boat to help with teaching. During these weeks you will learn the basics of gig rowing, launching and landing off the beach and begin to understand rowing lingo and instructions. In the first week we will hold beach sessions, where we talk you through the boat and its equipment- such as pins, stretchers, seats, explaining bow side and stoke side, midships etc. You will then start working on timing and technique in the later weeks.
Where possible, it is best for your learning and progress that you come to as many sessions as possible. Once you have completed the Novice Development Programme, you will be able to move into a development crew which participates in the domestic season and will have continued support and coaching to bring you on.
Each session is £5. We take cash or card and if you’d like to pay for a course of weeks this option is available also.
If you’d like to give gig rowing a try, please get in touch with us here! Please include as much information as possible, especially any rowing experience.
Once we have numbers for the 2026 Novice development programme, we will be in contact with a time slot. (This will either be 6pm-7pm or 7pm-8pm. Sometimes both if we need numbers! Please let us know your preference and we will do our best to accommodate this)
