Zelda
First solo build by Scillionian, Andrew Hicks.
Launched in 2022, the Zelda is the first gig to be built solo by Andrew Hicks. We are very proud to have gigs built on the islands keeping I’m touch with heritage and tradition.
Zelda is another one of our modern racing fleet ensuring we keep pace and compete at the front end in the world of gig racing.
Built of Scottish elm, the Zelda is named after the gig Zelda (a Bryher gig named after a shipwreck from which it was funded with salvage money) which perished in the 1950’s. It can now be found on the walls the Pilots Gig restaurant.

Tregarthen’s
Donated to St Marys Gig Club by Tregarthen’s Hotel

Built in 2012 again by Peter Martin and Andrew Hicks, the Tregarthens replaced a gig of the same name donated to the club by previous owners of Tregarthens Hotel in 1999.
The two gigs have proved to be fast racing craft winning many medals in the World Pilot Gig Championships.
Emma Louise
Named after his daughter, the Emma Louise was gratefully donated by artist John Heywood.
The Emma Louise was built on St Mary’s in 2004 by Peter Martin who continued the local gig building tradition in the late 1990’s.
Assisted by Andrew Hicks, the gig was built to the standard CPGA racing gig specification of which there are now over 200 gigs.
Named after his daughter, the Emma Louise was gratefully donated by artist John Heywood who has a holiday home on St Mary’s. The gig is light and fast, serving as a race boat for competing against mainland crews but also juniors and novices in domestic races.
